Motivation and communication

The biggest challenge I had when working on Spacial was staying motivated throughout the process. After the halfway mark I got the realization that I had no game plan or job lined up after I finished college. This scared me and for the next couple of week's any work I did felt like a chore rather than something fun. But after a couple of weeks I realized that this game and making games is what I want to do for my career. And that even if I don't have a formal job lined up right out of college it is o.k. because I am working on something I love right now. And I refocused and put double the amount of effort I could into this game and am proud of what me and the team were able to deliver.
The second hardest challenge I faced when making Spacial Delivery was the communication between the engineers and designers, in terms of what we wanted for our gravity system. The design of our gravity system and the game feel around that mechanic was incredibly important for us. As designers we had a system planned out and ready to go but the math and code behind it needed to be created. It was hard to be patient as a designer because the programmers had to figure out how They would get an object to enter the orbit of another object and enter and exit smoothly. Once the programmers created a prototype for us communication was easier as iterations on the gravity system could be created more quickly. And eventually the understanding of what we wanted and the limitations of the code began to blend until we landed on the version that made the most sense for us.
